Xenophobia

I wrote this poem with regards to the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa and the response it created around the world.

"Kill them all!' up goes the cry

"The time is now!" they all must die

Get out! Get out! Get out while you still can

Reason is dead

Blind rage rules the land 

The innocent and the guilty

Laying side by side

Opposite parties sharing a single demise

"Slay them where they stand!"

"They deserve no place in our democratic lands!" 

Everyone is a foreigner somewhere

Treat them all equal, it's only fair

You seem quick to forget

You were a foreigner once, your needs were met
