Not Caught

Not Caught

A Poem by Thurston
"

In the "Circle" at Parramatta Gaol 1971.

"

Not caught even with a camera

the quiet hind kneels

sinks into shadow

Not caught

even by its longings

the last white heron rides

ghostly over the lake

(Pressed between concrete

remember the alive things

smile your mouth in the dark)

Such sparceness in words creating a world teeming with life. This poem is crafted, not dashed off over a cuppa and a f*g. It has a richness that comes through in even the physical shape of the words in line. This work is a leasson to others in how to do it and how to do it properly.

You are right Robin!! Every word counts in its own right. I can see you walking by the lake and honing this amazing short poem to its perfection. We can only dream of such freedom.

Ten lines wonderfully constructed reveal the blissful freedom of nature contrasting with the heavy, concrete city life. And more! The freed souls contrasting with those trapped in urban sins. This is shorter than normal for this writer. Its brevity increases its power. The economic style of this writer has no equal that I have read on writers cafe. Every word its own thunderclap. Thought provoking thunder claps. A masterclass!
