Imbalanced Love

Imbalanced Love

A Poem by Douglas S. Williams
"

Something I'm sure others feel as well.

"

Isolated and distant,
I keep my core from society
Suppressing all that I feel
Helps to deal with life's dichotomies
My fortress was augmented
Strong, sturdy, and nigh impregnable
Yes indeed it was secure
I thought it was indestructable

I said damn you woman
Perfection made flesh
You're made me feel human
Have I become blessed

I'm a thinker true and through
I know the lessons of my past
Experience droning in my ear
"Now you know this won't last"
My belly has never fibbed
I rely on it's council
I ignored my gut
It's a paranoid swill

I don't know how put into words
How you make me feel
Wait a minute, yes that's it
.....You make me feel
You speak and I am consumed
In a heavenly pain.
You broke through and found my core
I did not complain

Happy and dandy oh yeah I felt fine
Never said "B***h, I'm gon' Dig out your spine"
I revered you like a goddess all of the time
And when you said you loved me, God D****t I cried.
"She doesn't love you, you a*s! It's mere infatuation"
My gut's words I heed not. I loathe it's aggrivation.

Imagine my chagrin

You said I was kind and sweet
But I'm not Johnny 6-pack
No one's ever made you feel the way I do
But I'm not Jhonny 6-pack
You said you loved me because I am a real man
But I'm no Johnny 6-pack
YOU SAID YOU LOVED ME!
I dont have a 6-pack.

God am I embarrassed
Why didn't I listen
Deep in my core I knew
I should have just listened.
I met you and my logic went "whoosh" out the ball park
The ominous clues were calling, like an old world lark
You destroyed my heart and I had that s**t safe
And you want to be friends oh yeah that's f****n' great.

So tell me how do manage, how are we to become friends
When I promised to love you till beyond times end
You love me you say but just not in that way
Then our love is imbalanced, cause my love wont ebb or fade
I'm angry and bitter and I wish your love was there.
But I can't love you less, that'll be my cross to bear

It sucks huh? you want to believe with all of who you are, yet the whole time that little red flag was waving in the distance but we chose to ignore. Friends??? ha, when you are in love with that person it doesn't work... Out of all your poems that I have read thus far, this one seemed so personal to me.. I don't know it just did...

Most love is imbalanced. The Brady Bunch is a fairy tale, as is most of the love stories in books and fables. Real love--- is to be out of control. The part that makes the mind reel and the stomach turn is just part of it. Love-- it is one scary ride to heaven. Or, to hell if ones is not so fortunate.

God Bless

So sad, yet true - this emotional roller-coaster life and relationships has, eh? This piece is a no-holds-barred write and poignant at that. In the second stanza, I think you might have meant for (you're) to be (you've)...

good write - empty feeling
