The Forgotten City

The Forgotten City

A Poem by Thug Life
"

New Orleans..

"

I'm walkin to New Orleans like Fats Domino
Birthplace of jazz, mardi gras and the best pot of gumbo
Thousands of lives saved, thanks to the Superdome
A sacred place where my Saints roam
Beautiful city, why is the recovery so slow?
FEMA gathered around, planning, putting on a good show
Just wondering, where did the red cross money go?
They hired criminals, pocketing all the dough
Many questions can still be contemplated
Why do so many victims still have to be relocated?
How can they lose buses? Why don't they even care?
Rebuild Iraq the next day, how is that fair?
And Mr. Bush sorry we had to interrupt your vacation
But we had a natural disaster, worst ever in this nation
If it ain't about oil, it's none of his worry
Don't care about the poor so he's in no hurry
Not even 24 hours, and we help Florida, which is great
That's how it should be, but isn't your brother the Governor of that state?
Turn on the tv, didn't you see the 9th ward?
Your leadership qualities are nothing to be adored
Where the hell is our tax dollars being spent?
So sick of this bullshit, f**k this government
Katrina, you destroyed homes and lives but not the heart
Of the greatest city, it's time for a brand new start
