A Poem by Threadgold
"

I wrote this following the shocking news reports on the 'Miami Cannibal' incident; the description of Rudy Eugene looking up and growling was what prompted me.

"

He cuts a primal figure

Neanderthal - intelligent but brutal

beneath a generic parking lot

containing Chevys and pick-up trucks

their reg-plates blurred

each one the same,

they stopped the colour

and the new model only comes

in silver.

Silver too are his eyes

as he looks up, snarls

and raises a howl

to the moon,

sticky flesh, pink

and sore

inside of cheek

skin stuck

to teeth, metallic

blood tantilising

salivating

in the mouth, soothing

the aching jaw.

And the street-sweeper scream

of the underground

resonates America,

escaping one missing

mouth: a futile whisper

through drab Miami heat

as a cop draws from his hip

and pops four shots

in the acid-freak’s

naked body.

I really like reading this poem. I like the build up which does not prepare the reader for the tragic end. There is a strange sort of sadness in the expeession " Ameica escaping a mouth". It makes you grieve. Splendid piece of writing!
