The Terrible Revenant of the Night

The Terrible Revenant of the Night

A Poem by GTVile
"

For the French Sonnet contest. Never written a French sonnet before. Guess we'll see how it goes. Don't be too hard on me, its my first one!

"

A haunting wench upon the stomach sits,

Waking her victim in chilling cold sweats,

Invading the mind with thoughts and regrets,

Breaking the psyche with tormenting fits,

She comes without warning and touches the bed,

Suffocating the victim lying there,

With images of old pains and despair,

Wrenching the neck and impaling the head,

This phantasm knows naught of mercy's kind,

She feeds on contentment and peace of mind,

This foul spectre wastes all children and men,

Sifting through dreams, all clarity made blind,

Looming in shadows and lurking behind,

The solace of sleep, this vile witch's den.

Your description is so great I had a mini movie going on in my head. She's a wicked woman for sure.. Not the tooth fairy;) I love your work...!!! x

this is really good....gives a new meaning to "night terrors". All kinds of thoughts get conjured up in our vulnerable state of repose....and some can be quite unnsettling.

Absolutely beautifully written, it reminds me of the old Irish banshee stories of a spirit wailing before a persons' death, and ultimately departing them to the after life.

Beautifully done..the witch in her den; ready to stifle life, while we quietly sleep. This is a wonderful sonnet. Marvelous rhyme scheme and the tone of the poem is rather bewitching! Fantastic write!!!

Excellent! I'm terrible at structured poetry- this was wonderful though. Love the word choice especially. Great job. c:
