"Gods and Lions"

"Gods and Lions"

A Poem by Tommy
"

Just something that popped into my head as a thunderstorm rolled in today...

"

They walk among the clouds,

the gods with their lions; a pride,

hear their thunderous march, rolling,

while mercy cries

towards the heavens;

yearning for rain,

wanting to be

washed clean from violence.

(Piss and mark your territory;

     I will not fight for freedom)

And Zeus answers within

the crack of his whipping bolt,

"Then you will die a slave

to hypocrisy!"...

LOL this is good. Stand up or die sitting down being the only two options. I think the ending clearly blames man for what goes on here and not God. We can either fight for what we believe in or we can be a slave and give lip service to what we believe in. There is a difference and your poem clearly shows that.

I'm not the smartest guy, Tom, and yet, I got what you were saying. Also, I pretty much agree with all the points in your explanation.
A very neat poem addressing monumental issues.

Powerful words here. His word... often misused to suit the selfish desire of man.. and judgment that should be reserved for Him and Him alone. Man's crossing into His territory.. dangerous.

One of your very best, no matter how we fight for peace it never stops war being on the opposite side of the coin. Excellent Tommy.

Wow! Interesting, thought provoking historical (fact)ion. That must have been a powerful thunderstorm which evoked these profound and insightful words.

Bueno!

"piss and mark your territory; I will not fight for freedom" i love this addition. mostly because it says the word piss. jk. it makes you think. you try to draw a line around your territory but at what point to you confine yourself within it and trap yourself? a very good existentialist question posted here.
And of course there's the cycle of violence that comes naturally from competition and coveting other people's goods.... ( I just read locke, except not really). is this the hypocrisy? i saw this poem as anti-materialist. I don't know if you intended it that way but it can work for that.
Thanks for your review on my poem.
