"Gods and Lions"

"Gods and Lions"

A Poem by Tommy
"

Just something that popped into my head as a thunderstorm rolled in today...

"

They walk among the clouds,

the gods with their lions; a pride,

hear their thunderous march, rolling,

while mercy cries

towards the heavens;

yearning for rain,

wanting to be

washed clean from violence.

(Piss and mark your territory;

     I will not fight for freedom)

And Zeus answers within

the crack of his whipping bolt,

"Then you will die a slave

to hypocrisy!"...

LOL this is good. Stand up or die sitting down being the only two options. I think the ending clearly blames man for what goes on here and not God. We can either fight for what we believe in or we can be a slave and give lip service to what we believe in. There is a difference and your poem clearly shows that.

Reviews

This is a clever and inventive write, Tommy, but to be perfectly honest, I enjoyed it the first time through more than the second, after I read your note. I think that's because I want to wrap my own mind around the words instead of being told what I should see. It seems to me, as well, that your words are strong enough to get your message across without offering explanations.

I really liked this and your inspiring thunderstorm stayed with me throughout, which was a nice added bonus.

Your picture isn't showing in your note, so I thought you wouldn't mind if I showed it here. It's the perfect picture for this write.

that's awfully beautiful for just popping in your head. I love it when that happens but this, it's a real treat Tommy.

I enjoy thunderstorms even more so now. :)

a powerful piece especially with the footnote..wars are started by fear..it is only human attributes that we attach to Him to give us reason..poignant

great poetic~ even greater point~
however through the decades I've noticed how one man's freedom is another's shackles~
will we ever get it right~
will the mind win over the primal hindbrain or at least achieve some sort of balance~
who knows
meanwhile we will write and hopefully feed the conscience of the world~

The regal way about your description left no thought of cowardly lion.

this is a power lion line;
"hear their thunderous march, rolling,
while mercy cries" really good!

Full of wisdom and strength ..
Nice to read this,
Rossen
