"This Chair"

"This Chair"

A Poem by Tommy
"

Prompt: Write to this picture...any topic that fits it and in a dark/surreal nature. Catch: Write it in 10 minutes (prep and editing can take longer) Answer to "Hair of the Dog" OnTap#7 Prompt

"

Paper Mache masquerade

emotions molded for the occasion;

sightless beauty,

gray dressed dancer

starved for attention.

Look at me, I can't see,

tell me what you're thinking?

Yesterday's masks hang on the wall,

like cracked skull memories, telling

of unspoken truths.

I only wanted to be loved,

but this pale skin

has never tasted light;

my whole world

is color blind...

To write with such depth in ten minutes makes my hours of wondering defunct! This is a mesmerising piece, full of static! Seems the final fading is as far as you could go .. maybe .. wanted to be seen, aching to be seen, unseeing, dying .. sad.

Amazing what thought and skill can do

Highly creative!--and, as always, wisdom-imparting.
Another challenge well-met, Tommy.

Your last stanza is ridiculously good. A really awesome ending to a great poem.

I have always been a fan of "Unspoken Truths". I loved this.

10 minutes? God damn.

I have actually seen that image somewhere... maybe in my own frantic searches through the net for images to accompany my own work. I could certainly not have used it to better effect than you have here--I can't even tell which came first, the poem or the picture.

This was a joy to read, and will be thought upon for apparently a good deal longer than the time required to write it. Well done!
