Oh no POEM

Oh no POEM

A Chapter by C Peril
"

A poem, part of The 2nd Burden Anthology.

"
Oh no.
To be honest, the way I'm feeling
right now, that could be the whole poem -
yet, let me elucidate. Let's start from
the beginning; I tried to lock away
the beating drum that binds me to this
wretched thing called hope. A heavy
heart is best kept alone in the dark,
there where I will not hear its tender
sobbing. I have no use for such an
expensive thing, the burden of the
restless wings that seek turbulent
heavens.

So why?
Why did you come along with that
aching song and let the miserable
beast stir, go strong. The numbing
that I nourished it, retreats in the wake
of the wonderful world of your
sapphire eyes that speak whole galaxies
and leave me to stammer. Clamour - ing
the whole f*****g thing has defied
the cage I built for it.

It's too late, the cat's out the bag.
Now I have to deal with the fear,
the not-quite-knowing...
oscillating between yes and no.
My mind an errant rollercoaster,
the cart jumping giddily off the
tracks.

Oh no.
F**k this.

I am reminded as a "heartbroken" we build a cage around it so that it will not break again or fall for some unworthy heart. Yet we don't really control its wants and needs once attraction comes around and peeks our curiosity once more. All we can do is allow the wisdom of our inner monologs to give warning to our impending doom. But as they say...the heart wants what the heart wants. And we fall hopelessly all over again. This insightful poem reminds me of that war we have within ourselves over love. Thank you for sharing your art.

Depression and anxiety; stupefaction and irrationality, insecurity and sheer terror; these are just a few on the long list of symptoms of love. Great write.
