Steam (For all that you've had) *A Poem by C PerilRead and review, or else!
Oblivion takes the form of an old steam train, straight out of a black and white movie.
We are all tied to the tracks. And dastardly fate - oh, the fiendish foe with a HH Holmes moustache - sits with the sickening grin of a madman, playing freakish tunes on a piano. There is no hero or protagonist that may swoop in and interject. Medicine, exercise, eating right; you're pissing in the wind. We, all of us - the blonde damsel with the bulging bosom - we will be blessed with a hideous and violent death at the hands of something mechanical. So the beauty of life is in this. You are pinned to the tracks, there is no doubt about it, but if you open your eyes there is a sky above you and it is full of swallows and stars - clouds and condors. The vibration of the rails (or bitter words spoken by those who dislike you) cannot displace the sun's warm kiss. There is even comedy to be found in the piano's farcical racket, the sharp and screeching abuse of its keys. And the wholehearted laugh is a poem, a work of art. Always laugh last. The end comes and we think about God, our families... all those we've ever cherished and the memories they've left us. Take out a lighter or strike a match. Light up. Inhale. Be very, very grateful.
