Fate and Shadows *

A Poem by C Peril
"

A brief departure from my regular short and succinct style... a poem about romance and expectations.

"
You are the black figure in the fog of my mind.
I see no features and yet the idea compels me.
Maybe you sit up at night and stare out of the
window with your star lit eyes. And it's possible
that you've trained your hands to sow warm
garments that could cloak us both on lazy
Sunday afternoons. Do you ever take walks by
yourself - really just cherish the winds kiss
or acknowledge the vast blue sky and how
endless it is?

Do you treat your friends kindly? Are their
empty hearts still beating because they
are following the example of your refusal to
submit to the cynical musings of our common
modernity? You are moved by the suffering
of others and there is a part of you that will
never capitulate; the abandoned homeless
take the coins from your fair hands. Volun-
teering at a food bank, you're the champion
of some cause.

Have you struggled? In some profound way.
Seen some hardship. Is there a volume of
poetry compiled in the tranquil interludes,
when you could gather yourself? And try to
heal? The delicate jewellery - ornate pearls
- it's no cosmetic adornment but a sentimental
talisman; perhaps it's a cherished loved one
that you wanted to solidify. You aren't
so eager to see them become a faint memory.

Slightly more trivial... yet I'm still quite
curious. How do you take your coffee? Or
is it tea? Do you delight in that first morning
mug and breathe in the aromas? Like you're
partaking in a ritual? Would a smile spread
across your face as you begin to wake
and think about the tasks ahead? And are
you still in those cosy pyjamas that you
slept in?

Right now you are a silhouette, an abstract
being in my mind. But - and I guess the
excitement dwells in this - it's feasible
that you're also a real person, out there,
with your arms wrapped around the wrong
man. Every time you close your eyes
there's a stranger that you're longing for.
One day we might meet.

Imagine that.

I adore this. It's like you're calling out to your twin flame, and you're wondering what they're like.

I also did the same, without realising, just wondering about them and if/when we would meet. I met him, and bloody hell do your questions finally get answered.

He likes his coffee black and sweet.

Thank you, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
