Lakeside Gull

by Thomas G. Hopkins III

Lost souls flutter by this mirror faced lake
tracing the image of a love adorned,
but never touched; black velvet veil of mourn.
Life is lonely when affection’s heartache
is alone in the grip of other’s arms,
never found within those grey eyed charms.

Melancholy heartfelt folly, ogles roam;
(I can’t read your lips anymore) “Tell me
what you’re saying, symbolize for me, please
this truth of perception you call home?”
Seek the role of fame, relish in its mull,
to fly by the side of a seaside gull...

I will fight for the right to hold her hand!
Duel of chance. Momma says, “No, let it go!
Walk away from the heart this ardor knows
not.” (Lonely feather on a beach of sand)
A rapt relic held in this tired grasp;
we’re locked away in a memory's clasp...

Suicidal death is leery, the tide,
it drew her in just to pull her away,
I don’t have the strength anymore to pray;
hear this seashell soul cry before it dies.
Life is a lonely affection’s heartache,
lost souls flutter by this mirror faced lake...

Beautifully. Such elegant use of language and articulated like a true pro. At parts i found myself lost within the piece but htat took nothing away it just encouraged the rthmic flow of your writing to take it with me.
Layered with romance, love and pain , emptyness and lonliness.. fantastic piece of work.

Impressive Tommy! Greatly written. I've never read the play myself, but if it's as good as this piece then I definitely must.
