Chapter 4 - The Run

Chapter 4 - The Run

A Chapter by Dragonhawk0

As Lucy ran out on to a dusty gravel road on the edge of town, she began to realize that she wasn't really getting tired out. She had traveled further than she thought possible in that amount of time. This door seemed to have helped her more than amazing healing alone. The one thing that keeps going through her head is the symbol on the center of the door. It was an upside-down pyramid inside a circle. She couldn't help but have a feeling that she had seen that symbol somewhere before. Whatever it was, it seemed to represent some supernatural force. She began to head back to her building making sure to slow down whenever she could see people. She couldn't make people too suspicious of her. As she was heading back she took a detour through the market district to pick up a few things for home. As she approached town she pulled up her hood, pulled up her bandanna over her mouth and nose and put on her sunglasses. This was a common look around town. The city of Thalok has many vampyre citizens that need to stay out of the sun. Thalok appeared to be a beautiful city from the outside, with its tiered housing system and the uniform white-washed stone houses. The many tiers of houses surround a central area that is split into four sectors. The busiest of those sectors it the Market District. This is the home for all the stores in town. There is also the Recreation District, the Industrial District, and a fourth district that was surrounded in walls higher than the city years ago. No one really knows what is in there. There are rumors because there have been military escorts seen going in and out with large personnel trucks. Some of the rumors include secret military projects to create the perfect soldier or alien research or that it got turned into a maximum security prison that houses prisoners so dangerous that their crimes are not shared with the public. There is a rumor that it is a military base with secret tunnels from the houses of the rich so they have somewhere to go if the city is ever invaded. Lucy didn't bother with it because she was avoiding as much attention from the law as possible. For some reason, unknown to her, law enforcement was out to get her. About a week after she had awoken in the building, she finally ventured out. As she was exploring town, she found herself being chased by four soldiers. She managed to escape by climbing up to the roofs and running up there. After that, anytime she was somewhere that she might see law enforcement, she wore her bandanna, hood and glasses. The only clue to what had happened before she woke up in the building, before the door, was a tattoo of a symbol meaning “Light Bringer” or “Hope Bringer.” She picked the name Lucy based on that symbol. After picking up a new blanket and a new jacket she headed back to the building to meditate on what she had learned about her new powers so far.
