A Poem by Thoiba

Childhood

Pain"
that’s what I feel
when I look back now.
My heart, heavy,
my eyes, brimming,
threatening to flood.

Denied love, denied peace,
they eat me alive.
Childhood?
What’s a child
but a folly,
a fallacy,
a stain
made to carry other stains?

People quote Freud,
You are your childhood.
And I say,
No, thanks.
Please, not that.

Let me be free
from the weight of that stain,
the shadow of that name.

Life is all about the constant struggle to be if u ask me. Thank u. Highly appreciate ur feedbacks
The form - how the words form a thin stream down the webpage - makes me feel so much more than if the poem took on any other form. I really loved the last two lines. The "weight" of the stain, the "shadow" that the name casts. Not to mention the rhyme there - it really comes together as a memorable end to the poem. It would be awesome if you went into the why - why childhood brings you so much pain, why you don't want to be associated with it. The explanation doesn't have to be explicit, of course - it could be ambiguous, direct, anything! It's just an idea to play around with :) I love your poem!
