They Take Everything

They take everything

Everything from You

Money, Rights, Freedoms

Ripping it all away

They steal your wages,

They toy with your mind,

And you cant even know it

Its all you know

They blind you to the truth

They force you from your house

They even take your life

Taking everything from You

Not knowing it

Not seeing it

Media-control

Bodily Repression

You’ve never known anything else

The system You defend

That stole everything from You

And you don’t even know it

They take everything from You

You live in ignorance of theft

Never realizing what is being taken

Until you can do nothing

Until you are nothing like You should have been

Because they have taken everything from you.

This poem really speaks my language. I'm an aging political and social activist with sympathy to ideologies such as anarchism, so I really hear your heart in this one. I'll never understand how people allow themselves to be so apathetic- I mean, didn't we attend the same schools and be part of the instituations as those that mindlessly follow? Aren't we subject to the same media soundbites and assertions of value, worth and desirability? So how come some can see right through it when most don't seem to even want to know?
I'll probably never know!
