We Are The Pawns

We Are The Pawns

A Poem by Thoctar
"

I thought of this one while playing Chess. Hope you like it1

"
We are the pawns, hear us speak
We are the pawns, hear us yell
We are the pawns, hear us cry
We are the pawns, hear our silence

Our far-off masters, sending us off to die
Like we are nothing but pieces
Expendable...Sacrificial...Worthless
We are the pawns, see our suffering

They tell us we are free
They tell us that we have a choice
Choice depends on the freedom to choose
And we, my friends, have no freedom to choose

Hear our song, hear our fight
We will go no further
We shall fight and we shall win
But not for them
“All power to the pawns!”
We shall fight against them, for we are no longer the pawns
We are the rebels

We are the rebels, hear us speak
We are the rebels, hear us yell
We are the rebels, hear us cry
We are the rebels, hear our fight
For we are no longer pawns, but soldiers
We are humans!

I like this poem. Very true for how govt can treat soldiers. Govt officials see soldiers as drawings on a tatics sheet

I could imagine this being a rabble rousing punk song- definitely nailed 'those at the top' and I like the resounding cry for solidarity in defiance as its conclusion, nice one, spence

Fascinating piece.
Chess was originally a game to teach military strategy to officers, the pawns were only to obey blindly, they did not need to understand. In todays parlance, pawns were cannon fodder, expendable.
