Blind Man's Love Song

Blind Man's Love Song

A Poem by Austin
"

Inspired by Sylvia Plath's 'Mad Girl's Love Song'

"

You pass by like a shooting star

And I make the same wish every time,

That your warmth will never disappear into the dark.

Your voice is like light behind a door cracked open

And just for a moment, the flickering candle

Of a memory appears

Oh, how the colors merge together in my head

And the lines become more blurred each time

That these images talk to me

But your eyes, I could never forget the way they pierced

The fog of an early morning

And your hair, I could never forget the way it shone like comfort

In the afternoon sun

Now, don’t mistake these verses as defeated complaints

My love is not lost, I do not need to see it

It is always one thought away, I could never leave it

The hum of your voice, the smooth indentions of your skin

They all remind me of church bells, and of a voice full of happiness and surprise

And of the touch of wind, softly cooling your back

When strangers see this blind man smiling, and wonder to themselves

‘What is this man thinking of, that he can be so happy in a life without color, without light?’

Simply know darling, that I am thinking of you
