The Breeze

The Breeze

A Poem by Thisdumebi
"

2003: For Becky. I had returned to the south from a one-year compulsory service to fatherland in the north. One evening, as the wind blew, memories of those months were tossed about...and there, Becky lay nude on my mind!

"

This breeze

fetches familiar scent and strength.
It was this, the breeze, that caused my
separation from Rijau and, with it, one love
I owned just months ago.

It blows now

as it blew then,

throwing
dead leaves to lively heights as they betray kinship
with the flying birds;

and though leaves are in flight,
some the butterfly,

others the crow,

those memories that breeze alone can bring
come in droves.

You left the poem for the background! It wasn't a hell of a goodbye...just one made in the fulness of time!

You fell in love while on NYSC year? With a native?
Must be one hell of a goodbye...
