Feathers Still Mine

Every love of mine 

That I clasped or let go 

Flutters as a feather on my pillow 

Waiting for just the right breeze 

So it may tickle my unlit brow

No matter, 

which love passed or which stayed 

Which love held on or which strayed 

Each plume looks to stroke me, still

In an emptied place 

only that love could ever fill.

Feathers still promising flight

Strewn from love’s torn wings 

I keep for every loveless night  

Though thinning with the years

Their velvet oft streaked by my tears.

How I have missed your poetry. This piece moves me. Touches my tired heart. Those feathers remaining. How precious it is to remember the love that was. I am reminded here of that old saying, that it is better to have loved and lost than never loved at all. On those sleepless nights, dear friend and through your tears, remember the love.
