The Israel Sonnet

For the Twelve who stand unflinching, with God

Great oceans are split, at the strike of His rod

They borrow His foaming cup, at His nod

Pouring it on the decrepit and flawed

God renews them as eagles at sundown

Spearheading them in formidable forms

Engraving for them, in His name, a crown

Shepherding them across a slew of storms

Over them, the water never closes

To wreck and ravage them, there is no flame

For them, blistering deserts spew roses

With angels they wrestled, to earn their name

To graves of horror, they knew not to yield

God chose to be their arm, buckler and shield

I find poems like these an authentic delight, they are stories brought out from rusted pages and told in these lines carefully thought and put in place to speak of the details of their bigger picture, 'God chose to be their arm, their buckler and shield' a very remarkable line to emphasise how Moses was blessed holding out his staff parting the sea to make path for Israelites to pass through unharmed with the water standing on either side. This sonnet is divinely beautiful, not only with the story it tells but how poetically it does, really loved reading this sonnet, beautiful pictures used there too. Sending warm regards ❤️

Another excellent sonnet; tackling another original theme and one that remains to the forefront of world news today.

You have managed to cover a lot of historical ground in these few brief syllabic lines of the sonnet form. From the journey of the Twelve tribes under the guidance of Moses to the holocaust and their now current day travails, the history of the Israelites and now modern day Israel has been nothing if not eventful; an inspiring timeline of events that have witnessed the heights of freedom, independence, rebirth and the lows of genocide, war and still ongoing persecution. They are one extremely resolute and determined nation of people forever living in the shadow of hatred and threats. I have no religious denomination, but as a child of humanity, I stand with any that are prepared to fight back against the threats of persecution and who endeavour to cut off the head of that slithering snake of terrorism.

I applaud their courage and self righteous defence of their homeland, despite its troubled history and its pendulum swinging rights to ownership. Your words have described their journey and struggles ever so subtly, littered with biblical symbolism and a bold declaration that God remains on their side.

An excellent read on a very significant subject matter and one that opens itself to debate and various viewpoints.

Another fine sonnet for the book.
