The Israel Sonnet

For the Twelve who stand unflinching, with God

Great oceans are split, at the strike of His rod

They prepare a foaming cup, at His nod

Pouring it on the wicked and the flawed

God renews them as eagles at sundown

Spearheading them in formidable forms

Engraving for them, in His name, a crown

Shepherding them across a slew of storms

Over them, the water never closes

To wreck and ravage them, there is no flame

For them, blistering deserts spew roses

With angels they wrestled, to earn their name

To graves of horror, they knew not to yield

God chose to be their arm, buckler and shield

I find poems like these an authentic delight, they are stories brought out from rusted pages and told in these lines carefully thought and put in place to speak of the details of their bigger picture, 'God chose to be their arm, their buckler and shield' a very remarkable line to emphasise how Moses was blessed holding out his staff parting the sea to make path for Israelites to pass through unharmed with the water standing on either side. This sonnet is divinely beautiful, not only with the story it tells but how poetically it does, really loved reading this sonnet, beautiful pictures used there too. Sending warm regards ❤️

A stunning portrayal of Moses and God in poetic form…. Who parted the Red Sea and led the Israelites to freedom and I believe it is celebrated each year at Passover…for the Jewish people….an homage to God….the twelve fled through the desert to the sea, which was not closed….i love the way you managed to write this in a beautiful sonnet….love it !🌷

Thank you so much, my friend.
You certainly have the knack for writing sonnets! The twelve tribes of Israel fled through the desert and through the parted sea. The tribute touched me as I am Jewish. Thank you for this, Divya. Lydi**

This warm tribute revolves around the miraculous events and trials faced by the Twelve, and the ultimate guidance and support they receive from a higher power.

Written very well.

You're welcome dear, keep good! 🤗🤗🙏🏻
The flight into Egypt is very finely penned in this amazing sonnet, dear Divya.
I think it's time God made an appearance once more in our human world which is in sad need of such a visit.
We are in dire need of a leader like Moses.
You have very poetically captured the Exodus (14:19-31) in excellent symbolism as well as in word.
Exquisite religious poetic gem! Thank you for sharing, Divya...
Wishing you a very lovely weekend to enjoy...

Most welcome always, dear Divya...
Mosaic and biblical the words read as a reminder to the book of Exodus and Israel's flight. It holds many biblical symbols and reminds me of Sunday school as a child, although the lessons were not nearly as poetic or I might still be going. Nicely done Divya
