Forgotten Dreams

Forgotten Dreams

A Poem by Thian

In a long night’s trek, I hunted.

Dreaming of the paths end.

In a dark night of wanting, I searched.

Looking for the one thing I desired.

After an eternity I lay down. Alone and confused.

No answering howls of my sisters and brothers.

No tracks or odors to follow home.

No clan to beckon me. No pups to play the old games.

I lay there for an eternity watching as the world changed about me.

Long houses long since replaced with ones of cold stone.

Familiar paths covered in hard a black shell.

I watched as the land slowly eroded and passed into nothingness.

Of the soulless people that this strange world spawned in the millions.

I cried.

Not in the voice of my pack,

But in the voice of a spirit no longer seen or heeded.

At long last no longer able to bear the pain, I stood.

Padding down a long, dark, filth-cluttered path,

I passed empty homes and death-filled streets.

And I cried tears of despair.

Till at last I too was but a memory.

A memory of times past and dreams forgotten.

A time to be reborn perhaps, in this world of forgotten dreams.
