Had I finally done it? Had my many
years of failed attempts and dead rats finally paid off? I was sure
of it; I had made the cure for the bubonic plague. I tried to keep my
composure as I thought of what good it would do to the world, my
ailing mother would finally be freed of her disease. Tearing up I
rushed to the witch doctor's house to tell my mother, Alexandria of
my success. I was named after her, which was strange since in this
time the boy was named after his father. Father had already died of
the Black Death I wasn't able to find the cure in time, to say the
least I was desperate for this outbreak before she left me to. She
was sleeping when I arrived; I saw her arm's blackness had spread
covering most of her shoulder to her outer chest. I vigorously shook
her several times until she woke from her slumber. She was always my
biggest fan always getting very excited when I brought her one of my
elixirs. Wasting no time explaining my recipe I handed her the
container and she drank it energetically. Quickly she threw her head
to the side and threw up. She brightened her face up to show me it
wasn't that bad, but the damage was done. She really was looking for
salvation, she was heartbroken when father, John died and she was
even more devastated when she was diagnosed with the Black Death.
Disgusted and mortally disappointed I disappeared over the next weeks
searching for the answers I needed. Was I untalented as a chemist? I
hated to think like this and I started to feel depressed about
everything. But I had a duty to go to school and learn more about
witchcraft, alchemy, and things of that nature. My teachings is
actually where I found my passion to become what I am today, a
chemist. I was always fascinated by mixing potions and seeing their
effects it had on humans. Today actually was the first day of
teachings since our break we had to go off and make a project to
display, but being so busy slaving over the cure for the Black Death
I had neglected to do so. First day back I saw her, a cute witch.
Even though I didn't mind her being here I still thought, a witch in
chemistry class? I did recognize her though; her name was, Emily. I
was paralyzed; I couldn't stop looking at her. Finally I gathered up
all of my confidence to go talk to her during research time.
