Death Looks Like My Girlfriend

Death Looks Like My Girlfriend

A Poem by Deron Alexis

Death Looks Like
My Girlfriend

Why do we fear death?
she is kind, merciful
she smiles, she giggles
even as she smells like burning roses
she takes the pain away.

And when she comes,
brings the moonbeam
to a hero in waiting
like warriors know
like the fallen have seen her
have also seen
that fine line between
cowards and heroes
chosen guardians, and self-exulted banes
the infectious and their poison
and the faceless and their pessimism
who are they that deny
the slavery of this life
a chain and binding
for every breath we take
a debt for a moment in glee
Is she our only way out
Can we just live
without the porcelain wax and polymer
outside the reach of synthetic smiles

It seems to me that death becomes her is exactly
the metaphor that would fit this bill..Great writing
here in so many ways!

I'll stay neutral on whether I agree with you or not and focus on the poem. The poem is brilliant an I'm loving the alliteration on 'synthetic smiles'. So much meaning in two words!

I've mixed emotions about the feel of this piece. On one hand death is not a friend when it takes away loved ones, then on the other hand it does it's job well when it sneaks in and puts the sick and afflicted out of their misery. Either way, very well done.

This was a great poem :) You know you are right, when death comes for someone that person is no longer in any pain there is no more suffering..I love this poem so much I wish I had it when my mom passed it away,it may have helped my grandmother out :) just nice, flowing words that make you think.

Very good job done :)
