What If

What If

A Poem by Theresa

I have a life of one that I am proud

But why is it that I always go back

Back to those two simple words

What if

Those words haunt me in my dreams

They constantly enter my thoughts

Everything happens for a reason

Or does it not

So many times

So many situations

I could have made a choice

The choice that I left behind

Would things be different

Would my life be more complete

Why do I live in the past

Dwelling on the choices I made

Is there reason behind my doubts

Should I have chose another path

Since I’m always left wondering

What if

Just rereading...
Still, I have the same thought(s).

Nice reflection on your "What if" problem.. I liked your choice of words in this poem. Asking "What if" is a lot more common than you think.. I used to ask this of myself so often.. but now I've changed and all I can say is "What now?" I've read a few of your other poems and I can tell you have a very unique strength within you.. I'm sure you use it well in life and make some really good choices so don't let "What if?" turn into regret.. Keep true to yourself and Thank you for sharing!

Theresa, you took the thoughts right out of my heart.
Well, hey at least you're not the only one who has trouble letting go of the past.
I don't know, why would we want to let go of our whole life thus far, anyway?

Loved the message, and the poem!

Very good writing I really enjoyed it! Like my dad always told me. WHAT IF a frog had wings? He wouldn't bump his butt every time he jumped.

My life has been one big "WHAT IF" since I was 17.
Maybe way before that, but definitely then.
I can understand this deeply. What sucks is we can't change
anything. You know how they say it's better to die with no regret?
Well I won't be one of those lucky souls! Great Write & Thought
Provoking!

Theresa
What if/ As i no longer ask that question.
God traded me wisdom for truth.'
In teaching me the meaning of life
In exchange he took my youth. We all wonder about the unknown
Your not alone

I like this piece; maybe because my life seems to be hunted with "What If's," as well. Great Write!
Keep up the good work.

I hate when my mind wanders to what if...but to be saying to myself that so far I lived my life with no regrets would be a lie. I really envy those who truly regret nothing in life because maybe they are the ones who really have a peace of mind. Anyways, another great poem!

A great creation. Really invokes the "there but for the grace of god..." realisation. Brilliant reflection!
