Teenage Rebellion

Teenage Rebellion

A Poem by Theresa

I sometimes wish I could go back in time

Just to revisit my teenage years

A time I remember as adventurous exciting

Get picked up on my friend’s handlebars

Be able to let go of them again

Feel the wind blow through me

A careless bird in the summer air

Light a cigarette and take a drag

Feel the nicotine calm my nerves

A kiss on the cheek to all our friends we meet

To form a circle on the ground

Pass the beer around

Crack open a can

Hear the sound of teenage rebellion

Join in the laughter

As we dance to the sounds in our minds

See the world the way we did

Through our adolescent eyes

Roll a joint

And take a hit

Smell the lingering scent of teenage rebellion

Smile just because

Lay upon the grasses blades

Loose myself to the shining stars

Take a sip of my beer

Let the liquid soothe my throat

Taste the flavor of teenage rebellion

Tightly close my eyes

Allow myself to be taken there

For I know it is there in my mind

The sights sounds smells and tastes of teenage rebellion

Just thinking back to when life was carefree. A time before bills, work and responsibility.

Ah, I miss these days. All my friends are just moving off around England to different universities, jobs etc.

Excellently written.

Theresa, I think I just got a contact buzz from this. You just painted the picture of my youth as well with your words. How nice it was to go back and remember those daze lol. Sometimes I'm just glad we made it out alive. What an effing blast we had though.

We can never get the, old times, back. But we can remember that each day forward, will one day again, be those good old days.

This was great!

For some reason all of us are drawn to our roots of childhood. No matter how traumatic we choose to remember the good times and what it was like to be free, and not be bothered by what you did.

I loved reading this, it took my mind back to a time that was a lot more carefree for myself aswell. I enjoyed the simplicity in the poem. My only recommendation would be to take out the last line, which felt a bit clumsy when reading it.

Maybe also consider changing the ending to something like this:

Tightly close my eyes

Allow myself to be taken there

Once more

I hope you don't mind me getting carried away with suggesting an alternate ending.

Keep up the good work ;)

No kidding! I was just thinking some of the same things.
This is great and brings back so many memories of my own.
Life was one big happy party in the 70s! Summertime was the best.
Tubing down the Yellow Breeches; parties, concerts, fun friends
and the All-Nighters at the drive-inn. Great Write!

Great poem! wow, my teenage life seems boring compared to yours! lol...even though i probably had a different experience as a teenager than you, i can totally relate to the whole rebellion part ( for me against parents and society)...now that i'm adult, theres nothing left to break away from me...life just happens...

Ah, this poem really makes me think about what it will be like when I'm older, and how I will reminisce about these years that I'm going through right now. It's actually kind of weird to think about it now, but I really enjoyed this piece.
