I Remember........

I Remember........

A Poem by Theresa

I remember banging on pots and pans

After a long night of trying not to fall asleep

Snacking on chips and dip

Waiting for the clock to strike midnight

I remember heart shaped boxes

Little cards and mailboxes

Lollipop grams the talk of school

A single red rose waiting for me

I remember tales of Leprechauns

Mischevious and greedy

The trail along the rainbow

A pot of gold waiting to be found

I remember baskets filled with candy

A jump rope and a chocolate bunny

Searching for eggs filled with treats and money

My parents waiting as we hunted around

I remember going out to dinner

Mom and Grandma honored on the special day

Cards and gifts presented to them

Never did they expect, never were they waiting

I remember lightening bugs

Running through the grass at dusk

Having kickball tornments

Waiting to be picked

I remember morning glories

Jumping jacks taking off with a spark

Grandma's house from morning to night

Waiting for the extravaganza to begin

I remember back to school shopping

Fluffy dresses with matching shoes

The dreaded thought of summers end

Wondering and waiting for whose class I would be in

I remember school bus stops

The sound of the bus as it pulled up

The fear that would build

On the bus waiting to walk into a new class

I remember witches hats with wired rims

Going from door to door

Jack O Lanterns glowing in the night

Impatiently waiting for Mom and Dad to check my loot

I remember the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

Watching in my pajamas with my dad

My Mom calling for help

My Dad and I waiting for Bullwinkle to pass

I remember tracking Santa

As he got close to New York saying goodnight

Waking to a tree surrounded by colorfully wrapped boxes

Eagerly waiting to open gifts

I remember each month of the year

Each holding their own traditions

All of which are close to my heart

Anticipating and waiting for new ones to form

You brought back some memories for me, Bullwinkle and waiting for the bus as well as the bunny and running through the grass at dusk. It's a small world afterall. Nice way to remember things. Glad you shared it all.

I have read alot of poems, but I find your work the most inspiring! This one took me back to a time when life was simple. The times that I will cherish forever. Until tonight, when I read this poem, it had been a long, long time since I had sat back and reflected on good ole times that I most enjoyed. Thanks!

Aww I love this. Very happy and uptoned. It's not full of pain and distress like most of the poems I read lately. I'm glad that you're able to remember all of the great things in life and that alone really shows what kind of person you are. I enjoyed being able to grasp glimpses of what your experiences with life been like. Thank you for sharing :)
