![]() Heartache of DreamsA Poem by Theresa![]() wrote for a contest![]() The city lights are bright In the dark vacant night A single man looks out from where he sits on a park bench He is suddenly taken back with a heart aching wrench He is twenty nine and it's as if his life has passed him by He is alone in the world consumed by the night sky Once upon a time he had his chance at happiness Till a decision he made, one that he constantly would reassess She was everything to him But he thought there was more to life and he left her on a whim He packed his bags and hoped on the next flight He bought a one way ticket to the ciy of lights He decided it was time to live his dream But big city life was not as it would seem He traded his house for a one room flat His car replaced by the subway which he needed a lot of work at Work was not the creative carefree enviornment he expected Instead a high paced headache, his ideas continually rejected Then there was the girl he left behind Her face always present in his mind If he closed his eyes long enough he could almost sense her As if she was lying beside him and they were as they once were In that moment he could find peace Till he opened his eyes and the feeling would cease He never thought his dream would change He'd give it all back if he could have her in exchange The lingering question of "What if" could finally be destroyed The presence of her in his life would fill the void If he could only turn back time An endless mountain he would climb The city of lights would fade in the distance He would become part of an existence But in the end it is him and the bench Forever stuck with the heart aching wrench
