Western Noon

Western Noon

A Poem by Riley Ramsey
"

Massive trigger warning.

"
It was cold and rough, callused and bruised.
It is difficult, and lovely, scary and cruel.

My, how the tides have changed
Moon after moon

Sheltered and scrunched, hiding under beds
Caring and affectionate, cheeks glowing red

You have no control over me;
You will not raise a fist to me

For I am healed.
I am bloody and beaten emotionally.

Tired of being used.
I've found a place

Where I no longer hide
It's the safest place I'd ever reside

I can wear whatever I want
I don't have to ask to eat

I don't fear waking up to you
rolling off of me

I fear falling off the bed,
their hand reaching out

Holding me close
Kissing my nose.

I don't get degraded,
Punched or startled

I actually in fact,
lounge peacefully

No longer will I have terrors
Remembering your face on top of me.

I can sleep peacefully
Safe, sound, cozily,
Enveloped in another's.

I can fall asleep without
Thinking of consequences

How f*****g sad is that?

A very emotionally powerful poem. It speaks to the horrors of abuse and a mind unable to shake those memories free. They forever linger and remain indelibly locked in the psyche of our fractured souls. Thank you for sharing your art.
