Shifting Sandmans

Shifting Sandmans

A Poem by ThoughtsIBought

Thought spiral sunrise
Sometime past 5am
Some combination of conditions
From my alphabet soup psych chart
Has left me here
Awake but past the break of thought
Anxiety vinyls slide off the record player
Leaving me spinning
On a world that’s not stopping

Where do you go after you've already gone over
Every moment
Checking for flaws real or imagined
Fighting yourself till the arguments run out of words

Turtles and train cars all the way down
Nothing’s wrong
But each new thought splinters out
Like an ever expanding crack in the glass
and low visibility makes everything feel like a storm

Just want remove all the noise noise noise
Disconnect from the wire
Remove the spoon fed news feed
The noose of notification strangling my attention
Engagement is an act not a program in the background

Quiet conversation
It’s quiet
and I find myself waking up

This reminds me of how some people sleep with their phones, so as not to "miss anything"! I've never had a cell phone & I quit TV 18 months ago -- that's how much I care about "missing anything"! There's so much garbage out there I WANT to miss. Seeing the many continuing political arguments online, you can tell these people have been thinking about this s**t since they stopped posting yesterday, waking up with a fresh new onslaught of how they're going to answer their critics. It's crazymaking & your poem lets us feel a bit of the crazies. I love how originally you express everything, even tho what you're saying is very relatable. I crave quiet & I live alone in the wilderness . . . a contrast to all the noise-noise-noise! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
