Sin Eater

Sin Eater

A Poem by Rocans

To the christian God:

Permit me one wish to be had

Please enable me the power to coalesce within me

The wrongdoings of my fellow men

Into my own body, my fate to burden with the wages of sin

Since the prospect of eternal Hellfire is still possible

Despite the crucifixion of God incarnate

Rocans the affable shall subsume the sins of all

Into his unimpeachable frame

His absolution being:

A baptism within the lachrymose flood of the masses

Shed for my ignoble fate below the Earth's axes

That of Hell’s well-conceived torture

Burdened by tons of sin in my dark departure

Happy however are they whom I shall have purged of iniquity

Yet content with this beautifully macabre gesture

Exorcising their sins and amalgamating them into my doomed architecture

I am the sinister sin eater

Fattened prey for the grim reaper

I alone will dance with the fallen

In solitude with the devil I shall spar...Amen

hmmm. Definitely food for thought..no pun intended! To take upon oneself the suffering of the world..the belief that sin results in eternal suffering, is noble indeed. Who better to spar with one's own devil than one's own noble self?

Your usual dark images and unique, descriptive word choices, with an spiritual element that gets the reader thinking, Rocans. This is a theme that few would tackle, yet you do so with eloquence, my friend!

Such an enticing perspective and execution lies within these lines. Very intriguing piece you have here. Well penned.

I am fascinated by the idea of the sin eater. I've never seen anyone else here write about one. I used it as a line in a poem once but this is far beyond what I was able to do. Shunned by society except in the final hours of life. And what of the sin eater should his sins be a repast for another, are there sins too black to be consumed all at once. Does the sin eater dance eternal with that devil or is there another to carry the banner. I can't help but draw a parallel to Christ dying for our sins...yet we weren't absolved or were we and no one told us? (I do not intend to offend anyone). You've done a fine job of weaving the religious absolution of the guilty and parlaying it at the feet of another.
