Chapter 1

Chapter 1

A Chapter by Hyperion

Prologue

The world of Forenger is a place where human and animal come together as one to form a different kind of being, these creatures are called hunamals. There are creatures that fly, and creatures that swim, there are also creatures that dwell on land or hide in trees. All these creatures are like our animals, but with the features of human and animal. Some of these creatures hunt each other for food, and others eat the plants around them. This tale is about two territories in particular, the wolf clan, and the rabbit tribe. Only a very large forest separates them. Our story begins with a girl.

Avel had wandered off into the woods in the late afternoon; she had to escape from Heris, and was pestering her, yet again, to marry him. She just wasn’t interested in him that way, they had been child hood friends since she can remember, and so always thought of him as a brother. She spotted a little area where the trees had separated. Everything was so peaceful here, whenever she came here to her little sanctuary. Streams of soft sunlight poured through the gaps in the trees, and onto the wildflowers that grew there in the grass. Avel lent down to pick some for her mother. Her mother loved flowers, just enough to make her happy, and just enough flowers to let her know that the forest wasn’t all dangerous. Her mother hadn’t come out of the burrow since the last wolf attack which was nearly a year ago, so maybe the flowers would draw her out into the world.

Avel lived in a village not far from where she was, a small peaceful village like any, they were all happy beings, but were easily frightened, a tribe that was on the other side of the woods was that of the wolf clan, which is what scared them.  Avel loved being by herself in the forest, she didn't get along with the rest of the village, they thought she was crazy for even entering the forest. But Avel had gone to the forest many times, and nothing had happened to her, or so she thought.

Suddenly hearing a noise, a crunch of a leaf, she quickly turned her head to the sound and froze with her ears pricked in the air. In the shadows she saw a figure, very slowly walking towards her. No it couldn't be, they don't hunt at this time of day.

Fear was brought to her face. She knew she had to run, and fast.

Avel suddenly dropped her flowers, turned, and took off heading through the woods and so did the wolf. She didn't want to run towards her village in case the wolf had other plans for her people. Bounding over tree roots, rocks and ferns; they were both quite fast, although Avel was just that much faster than her pursuer. Neither the less he drew closer and closer until he caught the back of her clothing and tugged her to the ground.

Avel went down, tumbling over anything in her path and stopped in front of a log. Turning she faced her attacker; it was definitely a wolf, an enemy of her Tribe. The wolves were evil sadistic creatures that hunted, killed, ate and practically did whatever they wanted to, to any weak creature they may come by. This wolf had large golden eyes surrounded by black markings on his eyes, and had reddish dark brown hair and ears. He also had very sharp black claws, which looked like they could tear any limb off and avel wanted to avoid. His long bushy tail flicked in the air as he drew closer, and his smile of jagged teeth grew wider. This wolf in particular looked at her will eager eyes; he looked dirty like he had been out in the woods for awhile. Avel pushed at him several times, and then with her legs she lifted them and kicked into his chest sending him flying across a short distance and hurling him into a nearby tree. Taking the opportunity, she sprung up and leapt over the log and took off, the wolf got up as soon as he was down and took off after her, he wasn't about to give up.

Avel kept on sprinting, but soon she knew she would be tired, and have to slow down but she couldn't.

Once she slowed that was it, the wolf would have her in a second. She couldn't keep it up forever. She found a tree short enough to climb, grabbed a branch and pulled herself up quickly with her arms. Hiding in the foliage, she saw him, her attacker. He slowed to a walk once he realised she had disappeared. He stopped realising that she was nowhere to be found, looking around, and then gave out a growling moan, in frustration. Avel was so still and quiet, she knew that one peep and she was his dinner.

The wolf was quite young looking but still looked very tall and powerful. He wandered around for awhile, and she noticed he wasn’t leaving the area, but why? He looked like he was walking around in circles. He started to sniff the air, sniffing all around. Dam! She thought, he's caught my scent already, which is why he wouldn’t leave the area, he knew she was there somewhere. Turning his head in her direction, Avel froze, certain that she was doomed. But he hadn't spotted her, and looked back down. Relief washed over Avel, until her foot slipped making the branch shake. The wolf’s head snapped up staring right at Avel, with his golden eyes. He started to smile wickedly, his teeth looked very sharp.

As he walked closer to the tree, pulling himself up branch by branch getting closer and closer, he reached her in no more than a few seconds.  Avel gave him a slight growl, well she tried to growl, and tried smacking him off to loosen his balance, she missed, and at the same time missing her own balance, she started to fall. The wolf stuck out his arm to catch her, then holding her, he jumped down from the tree. Pinning both her arms against a tree, he looked her up and down, at first smiling but then suddenly started sniffing again, his expression was confused.

The wolf lent down to her neck and started to sniff.

"What are you doing? If you’re going to kill me then get it over with!" She shouted this as she wriggled under his grip, closing her eyes; she turned her head waiting for death. Waiting for the wolf to rip out her neck, which is what they thought wolves would do if they were caught. Nothing happened for awhile, all Avel could hear and feel was the wolf's breath upon her neck. Avel opened her eyes again, to see the wolf still there sniffing her, still scared she took this opportunity when he loosened his grip on her hands, kicked with all her strength into his chest and took off very fast.  She knew he was fast as well, so she kept looking behind to see if he had caught up with her yet. Bounding through the forest, she felt confused why didn’t he kill me then and there? Why did he look at me like that, wasn't I tasty enough for him or something? Avel snagged her toe on a root and tumbled down and just as she stopped, a great weight  fell on top of her once more.

"Thought you could get away again didn't you" rasped the wolf between breaths, staring down at her " you intrigue me, you’re not like other rabbits, your quite strong and feisty that’s twice you've tried to evade me, where as the others didn't put up much of a fight." said the wolf as he chuckled. His voice was young, but very low and raspy. Avel struggled against him trying to get free.

“Let me go wolf!!” said Avel as she franticly kicked her legs.

The wolf just laughed, he was much stronger then she was, swapping his hands, he held her two hands with one, while reaching around to his back pocket with the other and pulled some rope from the small sack to tie around her hands and feet. He then flipped her over his shoulder, and started walking. Avel  intensely angry now, bashed her two hands tied together against his back, then noticed his tail swishing in the air, she grabbed it as hard as she could trying to make him loosen his grip, but nothing happened, he just kept walking. What? Why didn't that work?! She thought, and then she felt him grab her small fluffy tail and squeeze it. Avel went red and started frantically kicking her legs.

"Hey don't you touch that!!" Avel struggled again. The wolf just laughed and smacked her lightly on the bum.

"Rabbit, my tail is a lot thicker than yours I can't feel it, so there’s no point, your fate is inevitable." as he said this he jumped a large root of a tree, making her jolt a bit. She grumbled, as he laughed
