Ch 13: Journey to Safety

After hearing that the army have set up protected camps for survivors, the group start heading towards the closest one which is a few miles away.

It was 9:00 am and the group had already finished their breakfast and were relaxing in the morning sun.

Suddenly the radio turned on and the news came on. "Attention citizens good news there are now safe camps in San Francisco, Alameda, Los Angeles, San Diego, and in Richmond that are protected by the military so if you want to stay safe please go there immediately We will update you if there any news of more camps. Also the military are fighting back the zombies and helping survivors to safety so if there is still people out there please stay safe"said the Reporter.

The group looked at each other. "So I guess we should go to the safety camp" said David as he stood up. "One problem it's too risky I mean there are a lot of zombies out there I mean sure we have weapons but it's still to risky plus we don't even know where the camp is" said Jason. "Dam you are right shoot" said David. The group sat there and thought for a bit.Then Maria looked up and said "Wait didn't they said that the military are on the streets killing zombies and helping survivors ?" said Maria. They all nodded. "Maybe if we walk around a bit we could eventually find a soldier that could lead us back to the camp. "Hmm we could try that but what if we can't find one we will just be wandering around aimlessly with zombies."said Jason. "Yeah but we either try it or die here " responded David. "Yeah we can't just stay here" said Eliza. "I agree it's risky but we gotta try Jason" said Maria. Jason sighed and nodded "Okay let's get ready to go."

Jason and David each carried the supplies and their weapons. While the girls went behind the stables for their last bathroom break. After they were done, Maria grabbed her gun and ax while Eliza grabbed her knife from the ground. "Is everyone ready ?" asked Jason. The rest nodded. They then walked towards the gate. David found a chair inside a stable and placed it near the gate. One by one they all hopped over the gate.

Once everyone had made it over the gate they all looked around and saw that there were a few zombies around and there were houses that were broken into. After arguing on which way to go they decided to head south towards the gas station. They headed down the street. Once they got to the road intersection they saw many broken cars with dead people in them.They all walked on the crosswalk to the gas station. Suddenly in one of the cars a zombie had gotten out behind them. They all turned around and saw the zombie. Maria took out her gun and aimed at the zombie.The zombie lunged out at her but Maria had already pulled the trigger before the zombie got close to touching her. The gunshot made a very loud noise. "Okay don't use that too much because that will attract more zombies" said Jason. She nodded and they continued walking towards the gas station.

Once they reached the gas station they peered inside the store and saw it was dark and empty but they could still see snacks in the store.David tried to open the door but it was locked. "We have to break in " said David. Jason grabbed his bat and swung at the glass door. The glass door cracked but it did not break open. He swung harder but it just made the crack bigger. He then swung at it multiple but it just made multiple cracks. "How are we going to get in and get the snacks ?" said Maria. They looked around for something big enough to break the glass doors. David looked behind him and saw a car straight across from the gas station.He went towards it and saw the keys were in there.He grabbed the door handle and it opened. "Hey move out of the way i'm going to ram the car into the glass doors" yelled David. They all sprinted out of the way. David then got inside the car and turned the car on. After warming the car up he drove it straight to the doors at a semi fast speed. Once the car hit the glass doors they shattered.He parked it right at the entrance.He quickly got out of the car and joined the rest of the group inside the store.

The group each grabbed a snack and drink to carry to eat and drink while on the trip. After they all grabbed what they wanted, they headed outside and looked back at the car. "Why don't we take the car and drive it ?" asked Eliza. "None of us know how to drive a car " said Jason. "But David drove it" said Eliza. "Yeah but all I had to do was drive straight and park I don't know how to do the other things. The group then continued down the street again.
