Ch 2 : The Richmond Lab

Scientists in a lab experiment ways to cure the flu but one of their experiments backfires and creates a pathogen that makes people into zombies

The next day in the early morning  

In a lab a few miles away from where the group of teens live is where the scientists were testing a new vaccine on people sick with the flu virus

"Alright we like to thank all fifteen of our volunteers for risking your lives to test our new vaccine because who knows what the side effects of this may be but it is a good thing you all signed the papers in case something bad happens to you but I am confident this vaccine will stop the flu virus" said The Lead Scientist.After the scientists told the fifteen volunteers to line up in a straight line, one of the scientists put the vaccine in fifteen different syringes.After everything was ready the scientists began to vaccinate all fifteen volunteers.

A few minutes after injecting the volunteers with the vaccine there were no visible results on the volunteers.The Lead Scientist then asked them if they feel any better.The volunteers all said no. Suddenly one by one the volunteers were starting to sweat a lot. They all groaned in pain and their faces and eyes started to become red. "This was not supposed to happened" said The Lead Scientist frighteningly. One of the assistants tried to help one of the volunteers but she then saw the volunteer's face and she backed up and scream. All the volunteer's faces were becoming more saggy and dark in color and their eyes becoming more bloodshot. One of the volunteers fell over and the two of the assistants tried to help him up.Suddenly the volunteer lunged at one of the assistants and bit her.The assistant's neck began to bleed and she started to scream in pain.All the scientists backed up frighten as the volunteers began to walk slowly towards them.

"Run people I think they all turn into zombies" yelled The Lead Scientist. All of the scientists and the remaining assistant tried to run to the front door however since there were fifteen zombies and only three scientists and two assistants working that day they were greatly outnumbered. One of the scientists was the last to get out and was quickly caught by a few zombies and was bitten by them.He screamed in pain.The two remaining scientists and assistant finally got out of that area and now have to deal with the long hallway to the door.They quickly ran down the stairs to get to the long hallway to the exit doors. The last assistant tripped down the last few steps.As she looked back she saw the horde of zombies coming closer to her but she could not get up. She yelled to the two scientists to keep going and that she could spare them time to escape from the zombies. The two scientists continued to run towards the door."Ugh why did the construction workers make this hallway so long ?" asked the scientist. "I honestly don't know" replied The Head Scientist.When they were almost to the door The Head Scientist looked back and saw the zombies were eating the assistant that fell down the stairs.He also saw that the assistant that was bitten in the lab and the scientist that was bitten near the door were also becoming zombies. "Oh no the lab in Los Angeles has the same vaccine as us and they have more volunteers than us" said The Head Scientist.The other scientist looked back in horror and said "Pray for humanity".

 They finally reach the Exit door and The Lead Scientist exclaimed "We have to board them in so they won't get out." He grabbed wooden boards and a hammer and nails nearby that were supposed to be used for future lab remodeling."After boarding them in securely, we quickly go to the nearby gun store,buy guns and then shoot them all and pretend this never happened so the public won't know about this accident"said The Lead Scientist. "Good thinking but we have to board this door quickly because the zombies are coming closer now!" exclaimed the scientist.The two scientists quickly boarded the door.However once they finished the zombies were almost at arms length from reaching them.

"Hurry!" exclaimed The Lead Scientist and he quickly open the door and ran outside.He then heard a scream and looked back and saw the other scientist was getting ripped apart by the zombies.He then saw the scientist's hand motioning to keep going and he closed the boarded the door.The Lead Scientist stood for a moment and heard more screams of the scientists. He quickly went down the few steps to the parking lot but at the last step he froze.He turn around and heard the zombies were trying to take down the door.He sprinted to his car and opened the car door and sat in his car seat to catch his breath.While sitting in the car he heard the zombies take down the wooden boards off the door. "Oh no" he exclaimed as he realized the Exit door was made of glass and he saw the zombies quickly trying to brake the glass door.He quickly tried to turn on the car but the car wouldn't start."Shoot I knew I should of gotten a new car ugh darn it."As he said this he heard the zombies finally shattering the glass door and were now quickly walking towards his car.He was stunned for a few seconds and he was then trying to turn his car on again but with no success.He angrily cursed at the old car.After he took a deep breath he realized the zombies were all swarming at his car trying to brake in. He let out a terrifying scream as he saw two zombies brake his side window and were now reaching to grab him.He scurried to the other seat of the car.He shriveled in fear and suddenly three zombies were on top of the car's hood and were trying to break the front mirror.He screamed as he knew his death is near as the zombies finally broke the front mirror and were reaching for him.He tried to push the zombies away but failed.Suddenly one of the zombies fell inside the car with him and he let out one last scream before the zombie began eating him.

After the zombies were done with the last scientist they headed towards the security fence.All of the zombies tried to take down the fence and eventually the fence collapsed from all the weight of the zombies.After this The Lead Scientist was now a zombie and was now following the other zombies towards the woods.There were now twenty zombies in the group.Luckily the lab is in a secluded place in the woods but the neighborhood is a few miles away from the lab.

While in the woods, the zombies encountered a hiker.The hiker stopped and heard groans.He looked in the zombies direction and screamed as he saw the horde of zombies reaching towards him. He ran from them for a bit but he slipped and fell because of the wet and rugged terrain of the forest.He glanced up and felt his head hurting and nose bleeding and he felt dizzy from the fall.A little bit later his dizziness stopped but as soon as it did he was trampled by the zombies.The hiker screamed in pain as the zombies devoured him.When they were done the zombies continued towards the neighborhood.

After the zombies left a mysterious white van pulled up near the lab.Two mysterious people got out and were heading towards the lab with sinister faces.They then went in the lab and looked for the extra vaccine.They searched in the cabinets and finally found it.They quickly left the lab and took the extra vaccine and were now running towards the van and got on.They carefully put the vaccine in a Ziploc bag and placed in a suitcase.They turned on the van and laughed as they headed towards San Francisco.
