White Sand and Lumot I

White Sand and Lumot I

A Poem by Thea Manayon

You and I are complicated.

I like you and I think you're a little interested.

But something's in the way.

Is it pride? Fear?

...of what?

Love? --the idea of it?

Breaking each other's hearts by rejection?

Why are we so afraid?

Why am I so afraid?

There is potential.

Our minds feel like open wires,

Sparking and surging with so much power...

Such life-giving energy.

But with so much space inbetween.

All our possibilities and ambitions

Suspended in that gap.

I see us soaring through time and space together,

Dodging comets and naming every planet and star,

Reciting favorite quotes and contemplating the Universe,

More than just its meaning--

But its value;

Its intensity.

In a simple discussion over coffee.

Or in the wee hours

When everyone else is sleeping.

When they've finally shut up.

Being the truest You and I,

Safe from thoughts of, "Maybe you just

Don't like me as much"

And the rest of the world.
