Down

Down

A Poem by The River Man

Reeling from the thunder storm horizon
Shivering your soul, out of its skin
Need those comforting thoughts don't you?
But it's just the cold rain that is soaking in

And the fire is out
It's time to go
Needing movement soon
Or succumb to the cold
And die, but it's okay you'll just make another fertile garden
For those sweet summer roses

You look directly up, towards the sky
Slate of gray too cold and deep to understand
You feel small, and cry, but it is only because you can
Like they say, right before you go numb
Your soul will stay, where your journey had begun

And now you're numb, neither warm nor cold
Comfort is no longer a word, pain no longer hurts
You only see the sky
Overcast amalgamation of brutal vitality
Drops land on your eyes
Seems like the birds wave goodbye
But they are only stalling
