One Way Out

One Way Out

A Poem by The River Man

Stone on both sides
Corridor of rock
Dark red luminaries
A rumble in the ground
And in your chest
A cold sweat shock
And a flash of death
Faster at an unpredictable pace
Lumber towards the end
Leave with dread
Running on unstable vision
How far behind?
You can feel its breath
On your neck
Warm with a viscous hunger
You trip over a worry
Frantic paranoia and anxiety
Nothing flashes except for red
Then a numbing stab
Cares and worries seem no more
Rocks are sharp
And gravity cruel
Nobody will notice
Until it starts to smell

...
. brilliantly written ... these lines are particularly perceptive ...

"You trip over a worry
Frantic paranoia and anxiety
Nothing flashes except for red
Then a numbing stab
Cares and worries seem no more
Rocks are sharp
And gravity cruel
Nobody will notice
Until it starts to smell"

. it's something that i have observed and experienced but never been able to articulate ...
