Card Prompt: Watch for Gesture

Card Prompt: Watch for Gesture

A Poem by TheWordWrecker

So I wondered in the empty space in Church one day, “Do I ask the lower case ’t’, the oxygen molecules, or some other deity I wasn’t told about?”

I sit against the pew. Knees digging into wood, polished from years of use, but still creak under the weight. My joints crack against it.

I hear nothing. I feel nothing. I twiddle my thumbs in response.

One of the older teachers eyes me.

Was I looking reverent enough? Or was she watching my mouth for gum?

I blamed the girls that stuck their used gum under the seat and desk instead of throwing it away in the wrapper. The teachers were strict more for the janitors sake then a random hatred of gum and other chewables.

I slump into the seat.

Why couldn’t people just clean up after themselves?
