The Canary, Rooster, Swallow and Verdin

The Canary, Rooster, Swallow and Verdin

A Story by WhiteCanarie

Once upon a time there was a beautiful white canary. She wasn't yellow like the rest of her breed, and more stunning than most birds in existence, which made those around her jealous and envious, especially since they were nasty vultures. They couldn't sing like she could, and whenever they tried to find mates they failed, paling in the radiant beauty of the canary. The canary had no idea what strength she actually possessed, or the beauty and power. The vultures knew though, and they used her. They forced her to sing, entrancing her with their own twisted power, manipulating and brainwashing the little canary. If she didn't sing to their liking there would be sever consequences to pay, so she made sure to sing her little heart out everyday, all day and night, until one day her chirp croaked. When it did the vultures were outraged, blinded by petty anger. They yanked open the door to the canary's cage and threw her out, where she hardly caught her balance and soared off before they could eat her alive. The canary's small wings carried her as far away as fast as they could, while the vultures were at her heels, nipping at them and her wings until she could barely fly at all.

A Rooster and Swallow sat perched not too far from where the canary and vultures were. The white radiance is what caught the rooster's eye, who murmured to the swallow, telling him an idea that popped into his mind. Both agreed with a nod and the swallow left his perch in a hurry to catch the little canary on his back, just as the vultures were leaving her alone, battered and broken. The swallow took her, with the rooster at his side, to their humble home in the woods just outside a carnival's grounds. There were other birds there, housed unlike most families because they were never the same kind of bird. Among the birds there was a Verdin. He wasn't her favorite, since they had a small bout in the past, but the longer she stayed in this home, with other birds who're different but similar at the same time, the more she grew to like the Verdin, and accept him as a brethren. She did the same with the others, becoming more attached, loyal and trusting. It wasn't easy at first, but with the help of the rooster, swallow, and verdin, she was rebuilt, in more than one way, and able to know what a family really was like. They didn't use her. They taught her, cared for her, made her laugh, talked to her, were understanding and patient. This new life was everything she ever dreamed of, and more. And she'd never leave her new home. If the vultures ever tried to come around and take her again they'd face a fearsome group of power, dynamics, perseverance, and intelligence. Which would surely outmatch the incompetent vultures.
