Inside the Sun

Inside the Sun

A Story by The Viking Bum
"

This was originally a very vivid dream I had and I was able to turn it into a very short story. It has themes of Buddhism and a little Solipsism, enjoy.

"

She traveled up to Mercury, or what she thought was Mercury, it might have been a giant metal ball, a jagged "big jagged "piece of the sphere opened up and allowed her to enter. The first thing she noticed was the giant, spiky, gaping"always spiky and jagged "hole at the other end. People crowded around it in perfectly wild lines. Though it seemed like a mob, there was method in their madness; the masses were all in perfectly straight columns, keeping order in their masses.  These lines were all working their way "one by one "towards the jagged gaping hole at the end of the sphere.

At the other end of the sphere "the thing they were walking towards- the Sun. And the music! " party music, club music, jazz music all swirled into one "slow, it methodically beat in the back ground, the people, as carefree as babies, with massive smiles, made their way to the Sun. And so the girl "with her plain complexion, and her long, blonde hair "got into a line, not in the front, not in the back, somewhere in the middle.

Due to her long, slender face and unorthodox height "towering above most of the men her age "she was able to see much of what was going on in the crowd ahead of her. As the lively pop and club music set the easy going tone the first row shuffled their way towards the Sun. Shuffling closer and closer, little by little, towards the Sun. Then, the masses in the first row stopped, they had come as far as they could "to the edge of the land " only a few steps from the Sun. That’s when it happened, from the surface of the yellow giant emerged an enormous smile. It was the supreme and simplest form of happiness, the most pure form of the emotion that was ever expressed. Its smile fanned out across most of its yellow surface, then came the teeth. Massive, gargantuan teeth, humorously round "round and smooth, smooth and round "seven of these pearly white teeth, four on top, three on bottom, breaking up the pitch. It was "the smile that is, of course the smile, what else but the smile "the most benevolent thing that man or God could have conceived. It was a simple happy, as if its’ mind had been deluded of knowledge and imprisoned with ignorance. It was an innocent happy, not plagued by the struggles of those who can reason, no gripped with the anxiety of what other people might think of it. This smile was utterly and completely innocent, in bliss.

As the smile came to its peak the music too, reached its pinnacle, its climax and the people who had previously been shuffling now "whether it be due to the wonderful smile, or the crazy frenzy of the unforgiving, ecstasy filled music "halted their simple shuffling and began flinging themselves, row by row, one after the other, into the mouth of the Sun. It was as if they weren’t even doing it themselves "the movements were too jerky, the height and distance they gained too great "yet if they were being controlled they didn’t seem to mind, in fact they embraced the control as they were flung into the mouth, great elastic smiles and wonderful features of happiness spread across their faces as their bodies were flung and their limbs flailed.

Then it was the girls turn "well almost, not quite yet, but it was coming shortly "her rows turn was fast approaching. A wave of uncertainty broke, drowning her mind in doubt and questions. Should she embrace the fate of her peers, the fate everyone seemed to be enjoying so immensely? The fate of pure, ecstatic joy then vanishment. That is what happened, as they were about to be consumed by the mouth they would disappear. They wouldn’t incinerate or anything like that, they would simply vanish into nothingness. Her rows turn was next; would this vanishing act be her fate as well? Would she too, stumble into the abyss, the unknown? Would she too take the plunge? She couldn’t decide, simply could not, yet as her indecisiveness continued she shuffled involuntarily closer and closer "her arms and legs forcing her forwards "to the edge, to the end. Then, before she even knew what was happening, before her brain could react, before her heart could feel or her Soul be in fear…

She was lifted, and flung into the Sun

She disappeared into nothingness, like all the rest

Gone

What then happened to this girl, what became of her? Did she enter some amazing new dimension where infinite, unimaginable things happened all at once, and, not at all? Did she merely sleep, become Sleep? Transported to Heaven, doomed to Hell? Nothing all at once, forever? Everything in a single blip, eternally? Raised into a colorless kaleidoscope abyss? Thrown into a hazy rainbow trance? Perhaps she ascended. Maybe after escaping this faux world where, the only things we know are what our senses tell us "what are senses? Are they really us? Are they holding us hostage? Slave? Are they not mere instruments of The Illusion. We take away the eyes and there is only blackness, no world. Remove ears, nose, and tongue, and remove all joy and pleasure and hate and sadness and spite and confusion, destroy all feelings. Peel away the skin, until it is gone and there is nothing left to peel, and destroy all experience, the ability to know or learn anything. Better still, maybe she was set free from untrue emotions. Emotions used to fuel our actions, keep us distracted, and slow us down. Emotions that are immediately false, and never true because they are working side by side with the senses that ensnare us. The fool thinks these emotions are real but maybe the girl discovered the truth, that they are merely another tool used by The Illusion to hold us back.

Maybe she was transported to utopian Space where she could move beyond her fictitious senses and false emotions, obliterate our Illusionist Void and know things for what they really are (overcome sense) whatever that may be! Feel things the way they are meant to be felt (conquer false emotion) however that feels!

Of course, we will never know, all we do know is she disappeared, like all the rest, into nothingness.

Any suggestions to make it better would be great, I have had it reviewed by a few people and I'm fairly happy with it but if you have anything that might make it better, I would love to hear.
