CollegeA Story by Chris “Whatcha got there,
Chris?” my brother asked in a rapid manner, eyeing the large envelope addressed
to me “Just some college stuff.” I answered blankly, “D’you know
where Mom’s at?” Matt breathed calmly, “Oh, she’s in the basement on the
treadmill. Who’s that from?” “Scranton. I’ll show you in a sec,” I continued in an bland
manner, in an awe-struck state. I headed straight downstairs. “Hey Christopher, how was your day?” my Mom asked,
inquisitive as ever. “Oh you know, nothing much. Just got this,” in a rather poor
poker-faced response. “What’s this?” she continued. “A letter…from Scranton.” I replied, breaking the monotone
bluff. “That’s great! Did you read it yet?” “Nah, wanted you to see it too.” “Well show me the money!” she exclaimed. I read the letter off, and to my great relief, I was in. The
further I got, the happier both me and my mother became. After reading it, she
began to laugh, “Did you show Dad yet?” “Mom, I literally grabbed this in the mail like five minutes
ago,” I responded, still fresh off the excitement. “Well call him up!” she said barely containing herself. And
almost right after, she retracted, “No, wait until he gets home!” I chuckled a little bit, and in an accentuated swagger,
“Well, alright, if you say so.” “Do wait, he’s on his way home from Easton and he was stuck
in traffic last I talked to him…that’ll make his day!” “I figured, he called me before I left school about an
accident or something.” “Shouldn’t be much longer now, though.” “We’ll see…so what’s the celebratory dinner then, huh?” © 2017 ChrisAuthor's Note
