Enough

Enough

A Poem by The Things She Noted

He tells me he has sisters
He wouldn’t hurt me

They say what if it was your mother?

Don’t you have a daughter?

Why does empathy need to string thin through connection of self

Why can’t you want better for me
In the simple name of humanity

Why am I only safe in the shadows of your sisters

The mortgaging of your mothers

I bare a soft soul
Why can’t that be enough?

Well-stated, and, sadly, very true.
