How the Leaves Flow

How the Leaves Flow

A Poem by E. M. DuBois
"

A bit of Autumn-day imagery.

"

You stand on the tall cliff.

Below you, an ocean of mighty green

The wind picks up with a soft swish!

The leaves of the trees whisper nothing mean.

A rock falls among them but it makes no watery ploosh!

And as the leaves blend together,

They make a hush of sound.

Together they are, they lie forever.

If they all fell with a splash! they

Would weigh less than a pound.

But it is enough, a weight is lifted.

To beautify the ground in color.

And now, just wow, how the wind has shifted!

To a hum! To spread all over the exciting splendor.

In the Autumn the drop off the trees with a sigh and ask the wind for a lift.

Author's Note

E. M. DuBois
Just a little something I wrote back when I was an early teenager. By the look of how it was on paper, I'd say I was thirteen or so. I don't exactly remember why I wrote this, or the significance of it. Therefore, I don't think I can categorize it properly. Still, I thought it was worth sharing. Someone will appreciate it.
