My Handbasket

My Handbasket

A Poem by Molly

I have a lot of love to give

to someone who deserves it.

I’ve yet to find the one that lives

who won’t attempt to spurn it.

It’s like carrying ‘round a basket

full of little paper hearts,

but now I have to mask it

from those who’d tear them apart.

So my basket I’ll hide away

and wait for one who loves me.

I’m not too anxious for the day

but think it will be lovely.
