Beaten

Beaten

A Poem by Silent Raven

A blow strikes him from the back

Another to the head

He curls up and accepts fate

Begging not to be dead.

His broken nose starts to bleed

A disturbing color of red

He falls and reaches for his sheets

Clinging to his bed.

The attacker has no mercy

And slams his head into the door

He goes spiraling back

Landing on the hard floor.

A kick is aimed at his gut

Another to the shin

He doesn’t understand

How he’s in the mess he’s in.

Agony explodes behind his eye

Red is all he sees

He tries to get up

But is knocked back to his knees.

He’s supposed to be strong

How can he call himself a guy?

Still, he knows

He’ll be lucky to stay alive.

The attack stops coming

And he’s allowed to breathe

The attacker smiles, turns

And starts to leave.

As the door shuts quietly

He looks up to the sky

And asks the same question

“Why dad, Why?”

This is so incredible. I'm not usually a fan of rhyme, but you made the flow very natural, and the end was startling and effective. You leave the reader with a haunting image.
