How Many Times Have I Walked This Trail?

How Many Times Have I Walked This Trail?

A Poem by TheShadowsWithin

How many times have I walked this trail

Of grass and gravel and mud?

How many times have I walked this trail

To catch the faint scent of sweet, sweet hay

The smell that smells of home?

How many times have I walked this trail

To remember that I have no home

No place I belong

And that the hay is just a fantasy

I hang on to by my fingertips?

How many times have I walked this trail

With the hedge of trees to my left

Concealing the things I do not want to see?

How many times have I walked this trail

To escape from the cars and roads and noises?

How many times have I walked this trail

Of grass and gravel and mud?

How many times have I walked this trail

Only to be disappointed by what the end holds?
