Monsters Kill

Monsters Kill

A Chapter by TheShadowsWithin

Gravel crunched under her feet as she walked, and a flock of birds scattered as her boots thudded against the ground. It was quiet, the only sounds the chatter of birds and the dribble of a nearby creek and the gravel crunching under her boots. The girl's body shook with insanity. She clutched a knife.
It gleamed in the light that filtered through the canopy of leaves above her. The lake of blood in her hair and clothes shimmered. She lifted her palm to her face, pushing a few strands of thick black curls out of her face, smearing blood across her forehead while doing so.
The girl smiled as her ears picked up the sound of a tiny heart thudding so fast. She turned her head in the direction of the heartbeat, and headed that way. The gravel faded to grass, muffling her heavy boots as she approached her victim. She flexed her fingers one at a time, holding onto the knife with the other three. Her knuckles ached from clutching it so hard.
The heartbeat lay behind a tree. She grinned when she reached behind the trunk, grabbing her victim by the collar, pulling them towards her. They screamed, pulling against her iron grip. Laughing, she pushed them against a tree, holding them there. They squirmed beneath her as she held the knife to their face. She ran the blade down their cheek, producing a scarlet line on their soft skin. The victim screamed, but she could hardly tell the difference between their cries of pain and beg for mercy. They were all just noise. Loud, obnoxious noise. And she had to silence it.
She lowered the blade to her victim's chest, and thrust it through bone and skin and muscle. She had the strength far greater than any man, any hero, any villain. She used none of it to break through the victim's chest, digging the knife into their heart.
Her victim fell to the ground, lifeless against the tree as she pulled the weapon out of their chest. Memories flashed through her mind. Bright lights, strange, blurred faces, but mostly that voice. We made a weapon.
No, she thought as she turned away. You made a monster.
And monsters kill.

TheShadowsWithin
This is really short, but it's the paragraph that kind of inspired the story. I hope you enjoy.

I will read this book at some point, because I find this very interesting. But as of right now, I don't have time to go through all the reading and give you a solid critique.
