Empty EchoesA Story by TheShadowsWithinPart of an unfinished story. The syringe bites into my neck. My body feels like numbness is coursing through it, and I fall to the ground. The world sways in front of me, but the thing I focus on is his face. The cold, merciless expression follows me into the sea of unconsciousness. I am drifting on a boat in this sea, and it’s sinking. The water swallows me whole, pushing my head under, suffocating me. This darkness is warm, dreamless, and empty. I cannot tell which is worse: the fact that I’m in this darkness, while my physical body is unguarded, or the fact that I embrace it. The water fills my lungs. I’m drowning.
