Tattered Teddy

Tattered Teddy

A Poem by Seamstress

On the little shelf

beside the bridal bear

Sits my Harley teddy

Tattered jacket and all.

Some may think it’s silly

To keep the jacket as is

Others don’t understand,

The memories  it holds.

Memories of love so deep,

That kept me warm at night,

A love that meant everything.

My live rough and tumble teddy

So very far away loved me

And I loved him so.

Now my rough and tumble teddy

Has left the life we shared.

His memories linger in me,

His spirit within my Harley bear.

So I shall leave the jacket alone,

Just as it was the last time I held it tight.

I’ll leave the love we shared

On the shelf with the bridal bear.

No one needs to know,

No one needs to understand,

That bear with tattered jacket

Is filled with happy memories.

A beautiful and sad write … speaks of love lost and the healing that comes with acceptance. You may be interested in this poem I wrote way back … touches on the same themes.

*Swipes at a tear and gulps heavily*
Just beautiful and you are right, no-one needs to understand. Or even know. But there are happy memories in that teddy, that is for sure!
